Get thee to a bookstore!

Yea, I know, like I need an excuse*...

But, if I did, this is a pretty good one. For you non-clicky types, the link is to a GREAT post over at EditorialAss about what happened to publishing this Fall and how booklovers (like me and some of you) can help.

So, now I'm off to the store. Was looking for an excuse to run away for a little while.

*I am in fervent denial that I should join the B&N Members thingy. After all, then I'd have to admit I spend waaaay more than $250 you have to shell out before it pays for itself each year. I'm pretty sure my taxes will tell me I spent more than that just on books for my business, but, well, denial is denial and I am in it. 'Sides, you know how 'spensive the annual Writer's Market is? And, natch, I finally upgraded from my 05 to the 08. And a week later the 09 came out. Grrrr...

I sucked it up and got the card. I can deny all I want, but I def spend more than $20 a month there. Give them my phone # and use my card :p You'll get the discount still! :)

Candy has a point -- all they need is a phone number. Although if that name doesn't match the name on your credit card, do they do anything? I have no idea. It's Austin; you could claim domestic partner or whatever.

For that matter, you can give them my number (although mine might actually be expired at this point; it's been a little while since I've used it).

I am NOT in denial about my spending and renew mine every year, although it's harder to justify with the Kindle now. May have to rethink my stance on that...

I took the same position for ages - I thought the idea of *paying* for a discount was absolutely stupid. I finally broke down and bought one at the beginning of 2007, and if the boxes of books I've had to cart out of here are any indication, I saved *at least* $500 last year, if not more. $500 buys a lot of books...
